EDR Dog Triathlon 2025

At the beautiful large lake – the Marokánka lake, two races were being held at once. Of course, we signed up for both. In the morning, we started on the Triathlon with a dog track and in the afternoon, we started on the biathlon, but we’ll write about that next time.

Triathlon

  • 120 m swimming
  • 3 km scootering
  • 3 km canicross

Erik ran out first with Skazka. They managed everything quite easily and completed all parts of the route without any major problems. Only the ubiquitous algae in the water. They tangled around their shoes and leashes. You had the feeling that some local water creature was pulling you under the surface. But they got out of it and kept going. They were also bothered by the heat. Like all of us.

It was worse for me. I chose Dangee, who has only competed twice so far, always with Kája. She has never seen a scooter, and she is a bit afraid of water. I didn’t even know if she could swim. In the middle of the lake, she started to panic and wanted to swim back, so we pushed each other a bit. I had to deal with myself , her strength and the algae. She was pulling me in a completely different direction, or climbing on my back to save herself. It was the swimming feat of a lifetime for me. I don’t know how, but we survived. After a few long minutes, we finally made it to the other side of the lake. But there was no rest waiting for us there, but a hellish machine – the scooter. Normally, I’m afraid of scooters with a dog, I’m not a big fan of fast rides, but I somehow suspected that Dangee wouldn’t be too fast. She wasn’t. I was more worried about the slack leash, which was getting tangled in the bike even through the antenna, than about the speed. The last part was a run, we managed that fine. It was quite an effort in the heat, the wet clothes from the swim were completely dry by the end. We did it, that was the main task of the day.

A little after noon it was Natálka’s turn. However, due to the rather dangerous swimming, only those over 18 were allowed to start. Or from 16 in the FUN cathegory (Natálka managed it even at 14), but instead of swimming there was to be wading around the shore. Natálka swam anyway. She chose Frozen, it was her first start after giving birth to the Olaf littter, so her fitness wasn’t great yet. At the start there was an endless wait for the scooters. We could bake bacon in the sun. Burnt shoulders and backs were absolutely inevitable. Oh yeah. But they managed the race beautifully, swimming was excellent, Frozen trotted out the scooter next to her and running was easy.

We knew that we were going to enjoy this race mainly and we had no medal ambitions, a shepherd probably never has a chance to overtake a hound on a scooter. But we enjoyed it and that’s the main thing.

Erik finally 9th place/out of 16 men 36 years+ with a dog over 20 kg

I was 20th/21 womenover 36 and dogs over 20 kg

Natálka 2nd/21 in the FUN category.

Also Andy with Hallelujah came to compete here for our team.
